Orchids of South-West Australia

The southwestern portion of the state of West Australia along with the Mediterranean region, the west coast of California, the west coast of Chile, and the west cape of South Africa are the only places in the world with a “Mediterranean” climate where winters are cold and wet and summers are hot and dry. All of these places are areas of high endemism with species occuring there and nowhere else. Southwestern Australia is no exception and there are many incredible endemic orchids (all terrestrial) that were seen and photographed in situ in the early spring of 2005 and 2008.
